The man who led Britain’s first Environment City is to address our first Eco Church Conference of 2018 next month (February) on his home patch.

A former trustee of our sister charity A Rocha International, Rodney Green is one of the speakers at ‘God’s Earth, Our Mission’ on 24th February at Holy Trinity Church, Leicester (pictured).

Rodney was Chief Executive of Leicester City Council from 1996-2008. During that time, it won nine Beacon Council awards for innovation and excellence and became Britain’s first Environment City, first European Sustainable City and first major city to win the EU’s Eco-Management and Audit Scheme accreditation.

The first of our Eco Church Conferences for 2018, ‘God’s Earth, Our Mission’ will be an exploration of how caring for God’s earth is an intrinsic part of our mission as Christians.

There will be workshops during the day. Practical ideas will be shared on how we can incorporate this mission into existing ministries and work areas such as ‘Children & Youth’, ‘Families’ and ‘Food’.

‘We’re delighted that Rodney Green – a passionate advocate for caring for God’s earth – will be among our speakers,’ said organiser Helen Stephens, our new Church Relations Manager.

One of our flagship projects, Eco Church enables churches to complete a unique online Eco Survey about how they are caring for God’s earth in different areas of their life and work.

The answers a church provides will collect points towards an Eco Church Award – the more a church does, the more points they get. The survey takes participants through key areas of church life.

A free suite of online resources offers plenty of support and advice about how to make the changes each church needs to become an Eco Church. There are three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
