We face an uphill battle for the planet. Some key guidance will be offered by our own Conservation Director Andy Lester, who is gearing up for a spring conference called Where Eagles Dare. Join him by booking now!
The event will be held on 26th May at Dorset-based Eco Church champions Hilfield Friary, who are also part of our Partners In Action network. The conference will show how Christian hope, grounded in Scripture, can underpin ecology and the need for collective practical action on the planet.
‘A Rocha UK has been working alongside Hilfield Friary as a Partner in Action for the past eight years,’ Andy explained. ‘They were the first site in the UK to gain an Eco Church gold award.
‘Sustainability and outstanding land management underpins everything they do – from how they source their heating, to what they eat. From the theological ethos to their nature rich Canticle garden, Hilfield is nothing short of an inspiration! The event will continue to build on our journey together.’
Where Eagles Dare offers to remind delegates not only of the challenges they face, but also some of the real reasons to hope. With a combination of practical examples and a biblical underpinning, Andy will take people on a journey which should leave them better informed, better equipped and – most importantly – ready to take action.
CONFOUNDED BY HOPE
‘These are truly challenging days for the planet,’ said a statement from Hilfield, which is part of the Society of St Francis, an Anglican Franciscan Religious Order. ‘From climate change to species extinction and from population growth to loss of critical habitat – we are facing an uphill battle for the planet.
‘Yet in the midst of uncertainty and struggle we are confounded by hope. Across the UK, Christians are beginning to wake up to the need to act.’
Suggested donation for the day conference is £10, which includes the conference plus a simple lunch of home-made soup and bread, tea and coffee. Hilfield ask people to Gift Aid their donation wherever possible. Register for the event at – http://hilfieldfriary.org.uk/event-registration.
