24 species of butterfly have been recorded at Minet. Most of these are resident here although some, such as the Clouded Yellow and Painted Lady are migrants which occur in greater numbers in some years than in others.
Since April 2002, as part of a national scheme run by the charity Butterfly Conservation, a butterfly transect has been undertaken on the site. This involves recording all butterflies seen while walking a set route, and requires weekly visits between the beginning of April and the end of September. These regular visits allow a reliable picture of the butterfly fauna of the site to be built up and also allow comparisons to be made between different years, while at the same time contributing to a national survey looking at long term trends in butterfly abundance.
