A Rocha UK is inviting supporters to wear the ‘green heart’ symbol and ‘Show The Love’ for a nationwide campaign (pictured). Resources can be downloaded to make your own green heart – among a wide range of resources for community and school events.
Concerned Christians are also encouraged to organise or take part in a local event – such as celebrating A Rocha UK’s ‘Green Communion’ at their church – and making sure it’s promoted and registered as part of the initiative.
It’s all part of ‘For The Love Of’ campaign run by the Climate Coalition, of which A Rocha UK is a member. People are urged to make February a month where they ‘Show The Love’ for things affected by climate change.
The initiative will run through the week leading up to 14th February, St Valentine’s Day. That date is earmarked as ‘Good News Day’ when participants can share solutions and success stories. The campaign aim is to be creative in increasing awareness that climate change will affect so much that we love – and to motivate greater public and Government action.
‘Climate change is disrupting nature,’ said A Rocha UK CEO Andy Atkins, ‘from the decline of Arctic Sea ice decimating polar bear numbers – to the increasingly unpredictable UK seasons affecting bird migration. As part of A Rocha UK’s response to this emergency, we’re encouraging supporters to participate in “For The Love Of” by celebrating nature.
‘With the urgency of building on the Paris Climate Agreement, and uncertainty over the UK’s long-term commitment to climate action, it’s vital the public gives an even louder and more visible call for action this year. It’s important for people and nature. Let’s Show The Love!’ (Photo: Sam McElwee)
