tbg-christmas-logo-02-1Make twice the splash with every pound you donate. Between 29th November-2nd December, The Big Give Christmas Challenge will match your donation and help A Rocha UK create a pond as a wildlife ‘oasis’ amid West London’s urban sprawl.

Thanks to The Big Give Christmas Challenge, A Rocha UK supporters can see their donations double from 29th November-2nd December – at no extra cost. A Rocha UK is asking supporters to help raise £14,000 for a pond at the Wolf Fields urban nature reserve as a local ‘Serengetti water hole’.

NO EXTRA COST

The Big Give Christmas Challenge matches every pound donated. This doubles the amount A Rocha UK receives up to a maximum of £14,000 – at no extra cost to the giver. The website opens at 12 noon on 29th November and closes at 12noon on 2nd December.

Supporters must visit the donation site during that time to give. An email from The Big Give will confirm received and matched donations. Participants can visit A Rocha UK’s Facebook page for updates and reminders.

Funds raised will pay for a wildlife pond with pond-dipping platform and nets so children can learn about amphibians, insects and aquatic plants. A Rocha UK also aims to install braille posts so sight-impaired children don’t miss out on learning about nature.

WATER IS LIFE

‘A pond is essential for wildlife,’ said Environmental Education Officer David Melville. ‘It creates insects for the eco-system attracting all sorts – including bats. Most adults and children just love the excitement of pond dipping. There’s also the prospect of seeing dragonflies or damselflies colonise the area. Water is life. Think Serengetti water hole – on a West London scale.’

Generous giving by A Rocha UK supporters meant last year’s Big Give Christmas Challenge paid for a storytelling arena and Education Officer at Wolf Fields. A Rocha UK’s education team have just celebrated one of their busiest summer terms – spreading their environmental message among more than 1,500 children – plus their parents and teachers.

STOP PRESS!

Generous supporters – with the backing of The Big Give Christmas Appeal – have just raised more than £15,000, exceeding the target to put in a pond at Wolf Fields. But there’s a chance to do more to make this a real wildlife ‘oasis’ for West London.

‘You did it!’ said CEO Andy Atkins, just after hearing the news. ‘Thanks to all our supporters and the Big Give Christmas Appeal, we can now build a pond at our Wolf Fields urban nature reserve. Our plan is to make a better home for hard pressed amphibians and enable more local children to have a great experience of nature. We send a big “thank you” from all of us at A Rocha UK. The Challenge is now open until 12pm (midday) on Tuesday 6th December – so there’s still time to donate to our work.’

Supporters taking part in the campaign have been making twice the splash with every pound they donated. From 29th November-2nd December, The Big Give Christmas Challenge matched their gifts – at no extra cost – to help A Rocha UK create a wildlife ‘oasis’ amid West London’s urban sprawl. After being matched, the total amount counted up today (2nd December) was £15,630. Target was £14,000.
