A Rocha UK’s Eco Church programme equips churches in England and Wales to care for creation

Eco Church welcomes churches from all denominations and none.

Eco Church is a learning community of churches of all shapes and sizes. It provides a framework to support your church and its leadership to take practical action on caring for God’s earth. It includes a toolkit of resources, an online award survey, a quarterly email update, online events, prayer forums and occasional conferences.

The Eco Church survey, with its suite of supporting resources, will help you ‘go green’ in all areas of your church life. The work will all count towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold Eco Church award.

Our conferences, demonstration days, online events, and Eco Church Connect newsletter will give inspiration and ideas to help you and your church progress in your aims to care for God’s world in all areas of your life together as a church. We hope your church will join the Eco Church community.

How to become an Eco Church

Take the Eco Church survey

Our survey and its supporting resources are designed to equip your church to express care for God’s world in your worship and teaching; in how you look after your buildings and land; in how you engage with your community both locally and globally; and in the personal lifestyles of your congregation. Our survey will guide you and help you assess your progress in five key areas of church life:

There is an urgent need for whole sections of society – not just keen individuals – to move faster and deeper to cut carbon and restore nature.

This requires leadership and a sense of “moving together”. We work to support and strengthen the environmental leadership of the Church sector in the UK to have a more significant collective impact in the critical years ahead  – whether through our programmes or by acting in other ways.

This includes facilitating them working together and with other faiths, at strategic moments, such as at COP 26 and its follow-up and helping denominations and networks raise their ambitions and reach them faster.

We also share our mutual learning  with other faiths and collaborate with multi-faith initiatives.
