From October 2021, Southwell Minster will be working in a new partnership with A Rocha UK as part of the national network of Christians working for conservation. Two intern roles are available.

Location:  Southwell Minster, Southwell, Notts

Brief description of role: We are looking for creative self-starters who would be excited by the opportunity to help create and develop a new partnership with A Rocha UK (ARUK).

Southwell Minster is working in a new partnership with A Rocha UK as part of the national network of Christians working for conservation. This includes partnership on projects such as the Target 25 Initiative to increase by 10% the populations of widespread, but declining species such as the House Martin.

The Minster Conversation Volunteer will be responsible for:  

  • Facilitating the development of the exciting new Partners in Action initiative with ARUK.
  • Focusing on the outdoor conservation work on the land, recording species with I-Record and developing the partnership with ARUK.
  • Liaising regularly with the Partners in Action Coordinator at ARUK on progress.
  • Exploring and creating new ideas and working with the Minster community to enthuse and inspire participation with conservation on the Minster estate.
  • Supporting the Minster to achieve EcoChurch silver award.

The Minster Conservation and Communications Volunteer will be responsible for:

  • Working alongside MCV in supporting the development of the new partnership.
  • Support communication within the Minster Community about conservation e.g. with The Leaves Project, Southwell Minster Environmental Action Group.
  • Where possible supporting communication in wider community e.g. with Green Southwell Group, Brackenhurst College, Sacrista Prebend Retreat House.
  • Supporting the Minster to achieve Eco-Church silver award.

Both volunteers would be expected to do regular hands-on conservation work as part of this experience.

Boards and lodging included plus £50 per week per intern.

Duration of post:   One year initially
