The Church is waking up to the Biblical mandate to care for creation. As it does so, there are more and more resources available to help Christians pray, think and discuss through the myriad issues that arise.  We all want to respond effectively and with integrity, but it’s sometimes hard to know what that looks like.

Here are a few helpful new publications that may help you or someone you know.

  • ‘Saying Yes To Life: The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book 2020′, written by Dr. Ruth Valerio. Ruth worked for A Rocha UK for many years, where she coordinated the launch of Eco Church, before moving to Tearfund. She has dedicated ‘Saying Yes to Life’ to Peter and Miranda Harris and Chris and Susanna Naylor, A Rocha International staff, three of whom lost their lives in an accident in October 2019. A Rocha staff were involved in providing stories, examples and advice for the book, and there are many references to our work.
  • ‘Radically Changing the Story’ – a Lent book published by All We Can,  the Methodist relief and development charity lent This studies the radical stories of Jesus to help you to respond to the climate crisis.
  • #LiveLent: Care for God’s Creation is the Church of England’s Lent Campaign for 2020.  You can download an app or sign up for a daily email for the 40 days of Lent. #LiveLent will suggest a daily challenge to help you honour and treasure the earth. It will also bring you weekly short prayers and Bible readings on creation themes. It’s ideal for children and their families wanting to learn more about the amazing gift of God’s creation and how we can care for it.
  • And finally….the Spring/Summer edition of A Rocha UK’s Root & Branch magazine (out in May) will focus on the links between climate and nature in the critical run-up to COP26 in November. It will look both at the impact of climate disruption on nature, and at potential ‘natural solutions’ to global heating. Our twice yearly flagship magazine centres on a topical theme and includes well-researched, scientifically sound articles, interviews with big names in nature, biblical reflection and ideas for action. It also contains updates on the work of A Rocha UK, and the wider international A Rocha family. It’s free to regular donors, supporting our work with a monthly gift of £3  or more. Download a standing order form here if you wish to become one. You can also purchase individual editions for £4.00 each, including postage and packaging. Please contact the office on uk@arocha.org or 020 8574 5935 to request a copy.
