The Climate and Nature Bill was scheduled for its second vote in parliament on Friday 24th January, and although it was debated, a vote did not take place. The debate was adjourned, and means it will not be able to return to the House of Commons until July.
In brief, the Bill sought to ensure that the UK meets its international commitments on climate and nature by 2030 by:
-Making sure the UK cuts emissions fairly and fully to stay within our share of the 1.5C carbon budget
-Making sure the UK not only halts but also reverses the destruction of nature by 2030
-Involving UK citizens in deciding the fairest way forward.
Although the Bill was not voted on, there were agreements made, according to Ed Miliband (Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change ), on the introduction of a new annual climate and nature statement to parliament and greater public participation on these issues.

Thank you to all those that joined our zoom prayer on Thursday 23 January, jointly hosted with 24-7 Prayer. Here are ways we can continue to pray:
-Thank God for his good world, and ask him to give us the grace to continue to act for the care of his creation, for the common good of all
-Thank God for so many MP’s, campaigners and leaders who have been, and are, working to see the UK government taking stronger action to protect the climate and nature. Pray God would give us all the strength and vision to continue.
-Pray that the promised discussions would become meaningful forums that will lead to quick actions taken for the climate and nature
