The Season of Creation, from 1 September to 4 October, is an annual, ecumenical celebration of prayer and action for creation that Christians on six continents have commemorated for many years.
The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.
Around 600 years before the birth of Jesus, 30-year-old Ezekiel, an apprentice priest in exile, took on a prophetic role and wrote of a time when water flows out from under the temple, when ‘swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows’ and ‘fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river’. This year’s Season of Creation (1 September-4 October) is rooted in Ezekiel 47:9 and 12. Denominations across the world are calling on Christians to become ‘part of God’s river, joining creation’s healing’.
Thousands of churches worldwide will be taking part. Will yours be one of them?
