Our Wild Christian community has now reached 4,500 members. It’s a unique national forum where Christians can together enjoy, nurture and defend nature. High on our radar this year has been the links between climate change and biodiversity loss and we have had a series of blogs by experts (who are also Trustees of A Rocha UK!) looking at the impact of climate change on nature in the UK.
For good reason, concern over the climate crisis is the highest ever recorded, with 40% of the UK public saying it is a major issue facing the country.
A Rocha UK is keen to raise awareness of the impact of climate change on nature – and the potential contribution nature could make to addressing climate change. Christians are amongst those keen to make a direct impact on climate change through action in their own homes, and our Wild Christian programme for individuals and families offers regular tips on doing so.
We also need to be clear that individual private action will not be enough to reverse the climate and biodiversity crises: we need governments to act too, with their unique powers and resources. That’s why this year we have done more to encourage our participants to use their voice to speak up for nature. One initiative we have taken is to launch a regular live online campaigning event.
We held our first pilot ‘Campaign Friday’ in October, where we looked at campaigning on climate change. Look out for details of Campaign Fridays for 2022, with special guests sharing about current nature and climate campaigns, and chance to take online action together. We’ll also be planning ‘in person’ events where we can meet to enjoy and nurture nature, at our reserves or on the land of our conservation partners.
A special thanks goes out to all those in the community that contributed to our monthly email by sharing their knowledge, stories, biblical reflections and much more this year. Could this be you in 2022? If you have good (green) news to share, we’d love to hear from you at: wild.christian@arocha.org.
The Wild Christian community welcomes anyone wanting to make small to big changes to live more lightly and in tune with God’s creation and to speak up in defence of nature. Wherever you are on that journey, join Wild Christian to receive a Bible reflection and practical ideas to enjoy, nurture and defend nature in our monthly email as well as hear first about events and training planned for 2022.
